How To Change Bearing On Samsung Washing Machine

Symptoms and causes of malfunction

The bearings in the Samsung washing machine are designed to rotate the drum correctly during washing and spinning. During operation, the oil seal, which protects them from moisture ingress, gradually collapses, as a result, water penetrates into the seat and flushes out the grease. Increased friction occurs, causing the bearing to deform and collapse.

There are a number of signs that a bearing has failed and needs to be replaced.

Firstly, this is an increased noise during washing, turning into a hum and a strong knock during spinning.

Secondly, if you open the door of the Samsung washing machine and manually turn the drum, you will notice that it scrolls very hard or knocks and dangles. It is also a sure sign of bearing deformation.

Thirdly, after the end of the wash, dark grease-like stains may appear on the laundry. This is another clear symptom of bearing failure.

If at least one of these signs appears, it is necessary to urgently replace the bearings. If not repaired, this can lead to deformation of the shaft and cross, the replacement of which will be much more expensive.

Bearing replacement

How To Change Bearing On Samsung Washing Machine

The bearings and seals are located on the rear tank cover. To replace these parts, they will first have to be knocked out of their seats.

  • The outer bearing is removed first. To do this, you need to take a chisel and a hammer and knock out the part with light blows in a circle, avoiding distortions. Beat only on the outside of the bearing to avoid damage to the seat. It is forbidden to hit only one point, there should be several places for impact, otherwise the bearing will be skewed or stuck in the bushing, which will lead to additional difficulties.
  • The second, smaller bearing is knocked out in the same way, turning half of the tank with the inside side up.
  • It is also necessary to remove the old bearings.
  • After the worn parts have been removed, wipe the inside of the bushing with a clean cloth to remove dirt and grease residues. After that, you need to apply new grease that comes with the bearings and install new oil seals.
  • Now the bearings need to be replaced. You should start with the inner one. It should be installed in the bushing, make sure it is level, and then hammer it in. To do this, you need to take a chisel and a hammer and beat evenly in a circle, without skewing. Beating is required only on the outside of the bearing.
  • After installing the inner bearing, you need to turn half over and drive in the outer.

Replacement of bearings is complete, you can start assembling equipment.

Samsung washing machine disassembly

Before disassembling a Samsung washing machine, you need to prepare your phone or camera and take pictures of the equipment before removing each part, especially before disconnecting the wiring. This is necessary to avoid mistakes during assembly of the device and to prevent new faults in the event of incorrect actions.

Dismantling the washing machine takes place in the following order:

  • Unscrew the two self-tapping screws located on the back side in the corners, slide the top cover back, lift and remove to the side.
  • Pull out the detergent drawer, press down the latch, slightly raise the flask and pull it out of the seat.
  • Disconnect and move aside the hose for supplying water to the powder compartment and the branch pipe leading from the cuvette to the tank. To do this, unclench the retaining clamps with pliers.
  • Unscrew the retaining bolts and remove the upper counterweight.
  • Open the hatch of the Samsung washing machine. Remove the clamp to remove the cuff. To do this, pry on the spring holding its edges with a screwdriver, remove and remove it together with the clamp. Then the edges of the cuff can be tucked in.
  • Close the hatch, unscrew the fasteners holding the front panel. Self-tapping screws are located at the top and bottom. Slide gently into the panel to access and disconnect the sunroof interlock wire. Move the panel to the side.
  • Turn the Samsung washing machine on its side, unscrew the screws, disconnect and remove the bottom. Take a picture and disconnect the wires going to the engine and drain pump.
  • Disconnect the pipe from the pump to the tank.
  • Unscrew the fasteners, pull out and set aside the motor.
  • Remove the tank mounting racks, having previously unscrewed the retaining screws on the tank and at the bottom of the case.
  • Unscrew and pull out the lower counterweight.
  • Without changing the position of the Samsung washing machine (on the side), return to the top, disconnect the pipes and wires going to the water inlet valve. Unscrew the fasteners, pull out the valve.
  • Disconnect the four counterweight springs holding the tank and drum in suspension.
  • Unscrew the fasteners, carefully open the latches, disconnect the wires and remove the control panel.

Now you can remove the tank from the body of the Samsung washing machine.

  • Lay the reservoir so that the pulley is accessible.
  • Remove the belt.
  • Block the pulley and remove the bolt holding it. If it does not give in, lubricate it with WD-40 and wait a little.
  • Remove the pulley.
  • Find a bolt similar to the one holding the pulley, screw it in and knock out the shaft with light hammer blows. Strikes should be applied at right angles to avoid bending the knot.

Now you need to disassemble the tank to pull out the drum and replace the oil seals and bearings.

The halves are connected with special clips that can be easily disconnected and removed. After they are removed, you need to open the tank in two and pull out the drum.

Before replacing the bearing, other parts can be inspected and serviced, such as inspecting and descaling the heating element. It is also important to inspect the shaft and cross-piece: if they are damaged, they should be replaced, otherwise simply cleaned of dirt and grease. For the shaft, you can use fine sandpaper, for the cross. a rag or sponge.

Assembling a Samsung washing machine

The first thing that the owner of a Samsung washing machine needs to do is reinstall the drum and pulley and assemble the tank. A sealant should be applied between its halves to avoid leaks. The sealant must be able to withstand high temperatures and alkaline environments, so you should choose only high-quality material.

You need to assemble the Samsung washing machine in the reverse order, if photographs were taken during the disassembly process. it is recommended to check with them, this will greatly simplify the process and avoid mistakes, especially when connecting the wiring.

After assembly, you need to leave the Samsung washing machine for the time it takes for the sealant to completely cure. After that, the equipment must be connected to the water supply and drain, plugged into the network, fill in a small amount of washing powder and start a test wash. It is necessary to flush out dirt, grease and eliminate unpleasant odors that could appear during the repair. After the end of the program, you need to look under the washing machine and make sure that it does not leak or moisture appears under it.

If, during the test wash, the Samsung washing machine is quiet, does not emit extraneous sounds, and does not leak, this indicates that the owner of the device has successfully replaced the bearings and completed the repair.

Preparing for repair

In addition to spare parts, various tools must be prepared to replace bearings. To complete the repair you will need:

  • Normal or rubber mallet.
  • Open-end wrench and socket set.
  • Chisel or metal rod.
  • Slotted and Phillips screwdrivers.
  • Indicator.
  • Adjustable wrench.
  • Silicone sealant.

After everything you need is assembled, new bearings are purchased, it is necessary to disconnect the washing machine from the network, remove the water supply hose and disconnect the equipment from the sewer. Next, you need to move the Samsung washing machine to a spacious place and prepare one or two tables to place the removed units and panels.

Replacing bearings

So, we have removed the tank, and the fourth part of our work has already been completed. We proceed to removing the bearings and replacing them with new ones.

Step 2. removing the motor and shock absorbers

Next, unscrew the bolts holding the motor and shock absorbers. They must be removed in any case, otherwise it will not work to split the tank. It is more convenient to work if the tank is placed on the floor with the engine up.

The motor is mounted with just 1 bolt. Having unscrewed it, lift the unit and pull it towards you. on the other hand it “sits” on a hairpin.

Step 7. removing the main bearing

The second bearing is knocked out on the other side. In this case, planks must be placed under the drum so as not to break the ears on the edges of the tank lid. We knock it out in the same way.

Step 8. installing a new bearing

Finally we got to the point of installing a new bearing. We will do this without crimping and as follows. We put it in the bore hole exactly, without distortions. We begin to knock it out from all sides so that it does not jam. In this case, hitting is allowed only on the outer cage, since there is a risk of damaging the insides of the part. Work is carried out until it stops, until it is noticeable that the part does not sink further.

The root bearing can be installed in a similar way, but we will go the other way. We use a screw press. it’s faster this way, but it will only be available from craftsmen.

The press is inserted from the outside. From the inside, a head is screwed onto it, which, as it is tightened, will press the bearing deeper. The process is shown in the photo above.

Next, you need to install a new oil seal, which is also easy to press in without damage due to the same press. If it is not there, then we also carefully hammer in the part. Then you need to lubricate the shaft with a special grease, which is purchased with the repair kit. The drum is inserted into the bearings, after which it is checked for any backlash. If everything is in order, then we put on the pulley and tighten it with a bolt. If you feel some movement, then this will be your third clue about the need to replace the cross. A worn shaft will not last long, if it slips in the bearing, then, firstly, it will overheat, and secondly, the drum will simply not spin.

The washing machine is assembled in reverse order. We think there is no need to describe everything again, just scroll through the article in the opposite direction. You can also view the attached to the publication which will also serve as good training manuals.

Step 6. removing the bezel

Now we remove the largest panel on which the door is fixed. From the bottom it is held by 4 self-tapping screws, which, as it is not difficult to guess, also twist.

In the same way, the panel is attached to the top with 4 screws. As you can see, you have to turn a lot, so the master uses an electric screwdriver, which is very light and compact, and does an excellent job with the task.

The panel, freed from the screws, remains hanging due to small hooks. Do not rush to take it off, as we still need to see what is happening behind the door.

Step 5. removing the bottom panel

Next, remove the bottom panel. It is secured with only three latches. To remove it, we will use a slotted screwdriver, which must be inserted into the gap between the panels (front and bottom) and carefully pry off the part. We do this along the edges and center, after which we remove the element also to the side.

Step 2. removing the powder receptacle

We proceed to removing the upper front panel, on which the board is installed. the “brains” of the washing machine. We start by removing the powder receptacle. this is the moving part that we pull out to put the washing powder. Pull it out all the way, find the plastic lever at the base, as shown in the photo, push it down and pull the part towards you again. It will come out easily, you do not need to apply much force so as not to break anything.

Step 11. removing the tank

Now our tank hangs only on the upper springs. Lift it up and remove them from the holes they cling to.

Find out what the error codes of Ariston washing machines mean with step-by-step analysis in a special article on our portal.

Step 3. removing the springs from the tank

The tank caps are pulled together by ring metal springs. They are removed quite simply. a flat screwdriver or the sock of a small hammer is slipped under their narrow side, and the part is pushed in before being removed. When you put everything in place, you just need to click them.

Disconnect the tank, inside which you will find the drum and the Tubular Heater attached to different parts. Next, we will work with the back cover.

The process of detaching accessories

Having finished the process of removing the panels, we proceed to the next stage of disassembling the machine:

  • Disconnect the connecting hoses from the inner base of the dispenser by loosening the metal clamps.
  • We remove the counterweight by unscrewing the mounting screws. Attention should be paid to the large weight of this element.
  • Dismantle the water level sensor connected with a rubber hose to the base of the dispenser. We carry out the removal of the clamp installed on the rubber hose, which will free the part from the hose.
  • Disconnect the branch pipe, which is the connection between the tank and the dispenser element.
  • We remove the counterweights, equipped on the plane of the tank. It is necessary to unscrew six bolts with a socket wrench.
  • We detach the branch pipe from the tank, equipped in the lower plane of the body. It connects the tank to the drain pump, from which we also disconnect it.
  • We remove the horizontal metal profile located at the top of the case. To do this, unscrew several fasteners.
  • Remove the back cover by unscrewing the screws with a screwdriver.
  • It is necessary to disconnect the contacts of the Tubular Heater using wiring pliers.
  • Disconnect the tank shock absorbers and carefully remove the tank from the body.

Removing the washing unit body panels one by one

Owners of modern technology often have a question about how to change the bearing on the Samsung Diamond washing machine (6 kg). This is a fairly popular model, affordable for almost everyone. It is necessary to start dismantling work as follows:

Removing the top panel.

  • using a screwdriver, unscrew the bolts located on the back of the case;
  • carefully slide the panel and remove it.

Detaching the control panel.

This requires:

  • Remove the detergent drawer. To do this, slide it out and press the latch located in the middle compartment of the tray.
  • Unscrew the two screws on the plane of the control panel.
  • Unscrew the three self-tapping screws that secure the inner base. They are located on the metal frame of the unit.
  • Unscrew the screws connecting the control unit with the front panel and the device body.
  • Pull the control panel to one side (towards you) and to the opposite side. bladder tank. This will detach from the base of the dispenser.

Do not completely disconnect the control unit. You can leave it on the plane of the case, since it is quite possible to change the bearing on a Samsung washing machine (4-5 kg) without completely dismantling it. It will not interfere with the removal of the tank from the case.

Removing a narrow panel. It is located at the bottom of the case from the front side.

Removing the housing bezel.

  • Unscrew the screws that fasten the inner plane of the base, where the container for powdery products is installed.
  • The rubber sleeve fitted between the round bases of the hatch and the drum must be removed. To do this, bend the rubber part and lightly hook the clamp with a screwdriver. Remove it and set aside to removed parts.
  • Unscrew the fastening elements fitted on the front of the case (at the top 3 pcs., And at the bottom. 4 pcs.).
  • Removing the panel. The process of detaching the panel from the case must be carried out with extreme caution in order to exclude mechanical damage to the plastic latches.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the door interlock element.
  • Place removed panel aside.

Tools required to carry out repair work

To replace a bearing on a Samsung washing machine, you will need:

  • Hand tool kit with screwdrivers and wrenches.
  • Metal hammer.
  • Cold chisel.
  • Pliers or other types of electrical tools.
  • Lubricant.
  • A hermetic substance that has a high resistance to high temperatures.

Reasons for replacing bearings

The process of replacing a bearing is complex and time consuming. It provides for the complete dismantling of the device. Therefore, before changing the bearing on a Samsung washing machine (6 kg) (on a drum), you should correctly identify the culprit of the breakdown. To do this, you need to pay attention to the following signs of the unit’s performance:

  • sound changes during the execution of various options;
  • poor quality spinning of the laundry;
  • the appearance of a leak under the lower base of the housing;
  • backlash formation during the rotation of the machine drum.

If the bearings are not replaced in time, more complex breakdowns may occur:

  • destruction of the seats of the parts, which will lead to the failure of the tank;
  • mechanical damage to the shaft connected to the cross mounted on the drum.

The main causes of wear

They are divided into two types:

Natural wear and tear. The service life of a bearing installed in a washing machine is 5-6 years. As a result, bearing replacement after 5 years is not a breakdown, but is defined as natural wear of the part.

Premature failure. It can be due to several reasons, such as:

  • Wear of oil seals. They provide a protective function for bearings against contact with water. Violation of its tightness due to water penetration will lead to a gradual washout of the grease, which will be the main reason for the formation of bearing corrosion.
  • Failure to comply with the norm of the weight of the laundry placed in the drum of the machine for washing.
  • Failure to comply with the installation rules of the unit.

Repairmen’s recommendations

When performing repair work on replacing a bearing on a Samsung washing machine, you should pay attention to some recommendations of specialists for the repair of such equipment:

  • Lay out the removed parts, dividing them according to their location.
  • Record withdrawal order.
  • To eliminate the problem of finding the desired fastening element when assembling the machine, the unscrewed fasteners should be returned to the seat after removing the part and slightly screwed.
  • All work on detaching parts should be done carefully to avoid mechanical damage.

How to change the bearing on a Samsung washing machine with your own hands?

For many years, Samsung washing machines have been the sales leaders in the consumer market. Probably, many owners have such an assistant who can make their daily life as easy as possible. Despite their quality characteristics, washing machines of even this leading manufacturer, like any other equipment, can fail due to various breakdowns. One of the reasons for the poor-quality functioning of the unit or its breakdown is the bearing assembly.

It is possible to eliminate the breakdown with the involvement of companies working in the field of repairing various types of household appliances, but this will require additional financial costs. If this is not possible, you can do this work yourself. How to change the bearing on a Samsung washing machine will be described in this article. To carry out repair work, you must carefully read the instructions provided.

Dependence of the performance of washing equipment on the bearing

The performance of the washing machine will depend on the high-quality functioning of the bearings, since it is these parts that perform the function of uniform rotation of its drum. The units have two bearings, and their location is the inner plane of the tank. They have different dimensions and therefore carry different loads. In case of bearing failure, the quality of the “Washing” and “Spin” options will immediately change. In this case, the question arises of how to change the bearing on the Samsung washing machine, because further use of the device can lead to more serious damage.

The process of removing the drum from the tank

To disconnect the tank, it must be positioned so that there is a pulley in the upper part, which must also be dismantled. But first you need to remove the drive belt from the electric motor and pulley and disconnect the tank from the motor by unscrewing the motor fasteners. Only after completing these steps, unscrew the bolt installed in the center of the pulley using a hexagon. Then we remove the pulley using the slight scrolling method.

We remove the clamps, divide the tank into two parts and remove the seal installed between them. One of them will have a drum. We knock out the shaft using a hammer and remove the drum from part of the tank.
